Watching a movie about Christmas holidays and couple issues - or non couple issues for that matter - may seem strange if you are about to go on holiday yourself, at the heart of summer on top of it AND with hubby. Well, strange choices can be made, you know, and others can actually be dictated by circumstances: for months I had tried to rent the DVD of The Holiday, especially in cold winter Sundays where a light-hearted comedy would have been more than welcome, like that blessed lump of sugar in your cappuccino.
It seemed that I totally lacked originality in my movie rental quest since a thousand other souls had the same idea, only a bit sooner. So every visit to the rental store would end up with me picking up other movies. Until that bright July day when hubby came back, a triumphing look on his face and with the DVD in his hand. Ok, let's fake the snow flakes and start writing a letter to Santa. The fact is, some movies are seasonal and there is no sensible way around this.
Thing is, it did not matter: the comedy kept its simple promise of a funny moment, light humour and efficient acting. I always marvel at how Cameron Diaz can play the bitchy business woman (Any Given Sunday) and then the nice and witty babe, loaded with money and success (daydreaming is a gift, I tell you)... I guess this is what good acting is all about. Of course, everything is too neat and perfect and even the girls' love crises seem to be totally bareable to be honest, not to mention Jude Law's too perfect smile and glossy looks. But you know, a feel-good movie right before taking the road cannot hurt and even helps you chit chat while driving and driving and driving...
Now, when are the Christmas holidays starting (so I can watch Les Bronzés while eating the Yule log)?
