Hubby and I just celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary. Wait. No. We did not.
And that's the whole problem.
Coincidentally, just a few days back I wrote a comment on Effie's blog telling her how I would follow her example and make sure we honor important dates, those that actually make me who I am and shape the events and evolution of my life - and that of my family.
Failure followed a couple of days later: on a rainy and dark day, we let the date pass out of... What? I find there is no excuse despite hubby's defense: "But there are so many to celebrate!"
Well, once we are in our graves, there won't be, no. Those will be peaceful days, for sure.
This just did it for me: I stood up and started foraging in the fridge. What has the fridge to do with it, you might wonder? As I see it, and it's probably just cultural, food is celebration and gratitude.
This was our chaotic way to the anniversary celebration and I find it intriguing that out of a couple of ingredients came orderly food redemption, inspired by Nigella's recipe, - and a smile to my face:

ReplyDeleteOh happy anniversary! Our last one was 13 years also and only since our 10th anniversary did we start to celebrate - we're those kind of people that don't do valentines either because "every day is valentines we would say;)" Then my step mother reminded me that we need to somehow separate those special days and moments otherwise they all become one so from then on we made the effort. That looks like a pretty amazing cake considering you had all of the ingredients in the fridge. Mel x
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mel! We do not celebrate Valentine's Day, but usually we do something special (does not need to be grand!) for our personal dates, as it were. I do agree with your step mother :-) The dessert is pretty simple, really. And the strawberries were handpicked from the garden, a special treat, perfect for a celebration ;-) Happy Monday to you!
ReplyDeletehappy anniversary dear one! that looks so delicious - i love cream & strawberries!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ananda! Whipped cream and strawberries are hardly an eccentric combination - but that's what I like about it :-)
ReplyDeleteI love this!!! Nothing says celebration better than festive food! Happy anniversary!!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThank you dear Effie! Your post definitely made me think...
ReplyDeleteYou're quite a creative soul Daydreamer! The strawberry meringue crumble looks so delicious! What a sweet way to celebrate... happy belated anniversary to you! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear Catherine! I can assure you this "mess" is perfect for the great summer temperatures we are enjoying at the moment - and what's more, it can be done quickly (and with no oven on ;-)). Happy summer to you!
