Each picture is a reminder of a bit of land, of people and animals we discover on the road and in the sea around South Africa, starting from the cover: the deeply lined face of the wise elephant welcomes you in its world, allows you to start turning the sacred pages of its life. The deep amber-colored stare is focused, clear and calm; but beware, you can come to my land provided you respect every inch of it and its inhabitants - we have all suffered long enough, let's us enjoy life in our primordial paradise in peace - this is what its eyes seem to say.
The collection of photos shows you the multi-faceted land from every possible angle: bird's or worm's eye view, eye level... The tour is complete and perfectly commeted upon and complimented by the explanatory and context legends at the end of the book.
It is funny, in a way you could also start by reading it from the end onward. Each vignette is accompanied by very useful details regarding the technicalities of each shot: aperture, speed, ISO. The apprentice photographer finds a wealth of suggestions on how to play with its camera toy! As always though, I'd rather ignore the author's/photographer's sentences and words at first and make up my own itinerary through his visuals, reacting at the sight of a place I have seen, recalling the faces who animated it and reliving moments and feelings.

This is what this book is: a collection of visual feelings and emotions that goes well beyond the simple travel guide.
