Simple ideas are also often the best, as long as they leverage simplicity to produce efficiency. But they are sadly also not the easiest to come around. Slumdog Millionnaire belongs to the category of the straightforward ideas brought together with sheer efficiency: a TV quiz and a child of the slums who manages to answer all questions, clear all obstacles and snatch the jackpot to everyone's suprise. Each quiz question brings the child and the viewer back to one episode of the main character's difficult life in the slums, showing us how, as everyday events unfold, children learn to cope and try to survive.
The rhythm of the movie is lively, the scenes always captivating and sometimes even funny despite the succession of undeniable tragic experiences; the result is an enjoyable and instructive movie served by brilliant actors who just take you by the hand and guide you through it all.
Lights out for this Oscar winning movie!
